Biography
Joe Vangsness began studying painting and drawing at the age of 7. His parents sent him to the Springfield Art Association in Springfield, Illinois to attend an art workshop for grade schoolers. He attended this program for 7 years.

Although he continued to paint and draw, he went on to college and studied business at the University of Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois and did graduate work at the graduate business schools of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Chicago.

Joe's first serious art study came at The Drawing Workshop in Chicago from George Sotos. At that time, it was known as "Studio Four Art Workshop". There he studied basic drawing in charcoal, figure drawing and oil painting for three years. Joe still draws from the model at George Sotos' workshop.

Joe went on to study portrait painting from Walter Parke at The Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts. He worked with Walter for four years. He became a member of the Palette & Academy of Fine Arts and has served as a member of the Board of Managers, Treasurer, and President.

Joe studied landscape and still life painting from Gianni Cilfone in Park Ridge, Illinois for four years.

Recently, Joe has attended two pastel landscape workshops taught by Chicago artist Nina Weiss at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Evanston Art Center.

Joe has exhibited his work at Gallerie Stephanie and in exhibitions held at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts.
